NSERC makes new council appointment


Ottawa, ON September 19, 2003 Dr Robert Haines has been appointed to the National Science and Engineering Council for a term of three years.

“Research and the training of researchers are crucial to helping develop our base of understanding and knowledge, making Canada a world leader in innovation,” says Allan Rock, Minister of Industry and Minister reponsible for NSERC. “Dr Robert Haines will be bringing his experience and expertise to bear on the vital decisions that NSERC will be making in these areas.”

Dr Haines has been the acting dean of science at the University of Prince Edward Island since 1998. He received the University of Prince Edward Island award for outstanding scholarly achievement in April 2000. Dr Haines was elected to the fellowship of the Canadian Institute of Chemistry in March 2002 and was given the University of Prince Edward Island merit award for excellence in teaching in 2002. He has received numerous research funding awards and has many publications to his credit.
