NSERC council makes new appointment


Ottawa, ON July 8, 2003 Dr Pierre Coulombe has been appointed to the council of the Natural Science and Engineering Research Council for a term of three years.

Dr Coulombe received an undergraduate degree in arts, another undergraduate degree in physical engineering from Laval University, as well as a doctorate in experimental medicine.

Currently, he is a consultant in business strategy and financing. He was president and chief executive officer of a small private biotechnology firm, Infectio Diagnostic, from 1996 to 2002. He has also served as chairman of the board and president of the Centre de recherche informatique de Montral (1988-1991), assistant deputy minister (technology) with the Qubec government (1981-1988), as well as assistant professor of medicine, at Laval University (1977-1981).

Dr Coulombe is a member of several Administrative Councils and Committees, including the Canadian Biotechnology Advisory Committee, of which he has been a member since 1999.
