Further funding for molecular medicine research centre

Thunder Bay, ON – Ontario’s provincial government is providing $14.7 million to support the new Molecular Medicine Research Centre in Thunder Bay.

The centre says the funding will be used for administrative costs, equipment acquisition and other start-up costs.

The centre was launched a year ago, and is a partnership between the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre, Lakehead University, Toronto’s Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre and Philips Medical Systems.

Joint research being conducted there includes new molecular imaging treatment agent testing and development, validation and testing of emerging technology, and fundamental and translational research on new diagnostic and treatment tools in the area of oncology, cardiology, and neurology.

The centre also received a $14.7 funding commitment from the federal government in July this year.
