CIHR-IGH scientific director to leave post

Ottawa, ON – Alain Beaudet, president of the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), has announced that Dr. Joy Johnson, scientific director of the CIHR Institute of Gender and Health (CIHR-IGH), will conclude her term this fall to join Simon Fraser University as their vice-president research.

Dr. Johnson was appointed scientific director of CIHR-IGH in January 2008. In this position, she has been a strong advocate for the gender, sex and health research community and stakeholders.

Dr Beaudet says that under her leadership, CIHR-IGH and its partners launched a major initiative into the area of boys’ and men’s health, helped shape the violence, gender and health research agenda, and fostered the development of a new sex and gender training curriculum.

A replacement for Dr Johnson has not yet been announced.
