Biotech council launches Internet job portal

Ottawa, ON – July 19, 2004 – In an effort to improve its services to Canada’s biotech sector, the Biotechnology Human Resource Council (BHRC) has developed the PetriDish, a web-based job portal for the biotech and life sciences sectors.

The Petri Dish offers biotechnology employers a window on a source of highly skilled candidates. The new career portal will assist companies in sourcing employment data & trends, posting career ads and recruit bioscience talent. Signing up is free, and first-time users will be able to post unlimited career ads for 30 days at no charge. The employers’ site also contains 50 pre-written job descriptions, access to 50 HR forms and over 100 HR policy guidelines and an Ask the HR Expert forum. This is intended to be particularly useful for smaller biotech start-ups that may be creating a number of new roles as they expand their activities.

Career seekers can post their rsums in a searchable database that allows employers to accurately pinpoint people with the skills they need. They also have access to rsum tips developed by HR experts to help them fine-tune their CVs. Job seekers can also peruse the database of jobs and perform various searches.

“We are very excited to offer this expanded service to the Canadian biotechnology industry,” says Claire Thifault, BHRC executive director. “Growing Canada’s pool of biotech talent means facilitating more and more connections between employers and skilled workers.”
