New short courses at Pittcon to focus on compliance and regulatory standards

Pittsburgh, PA – The Pittcon Organizing Committee has announced new courses for the 2012 Short Course Program which runs March 10 to 15, 2012 at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando. The short courses offer skill-building and career enhancing training by industry experts; range from half-day up to two-day classes; and include beginner, intermediate, and advanced level curricula.

This year, 34 new courses were added in the fields of data analysis, food, industrial hygiene, life science liquid chromatography, lab management, and pharmaceutical sciences, polymers, quality/regulatory/compliance, and rheology.

Lab management courses are a significant part of the program and include informative compliance courses on the general requirements of how to get accredited to ISO 17025 and updates on IEC 61010-1. The one-day course, How to Manage a Current Good Manufacturing Practices (CGMP), provides instructions on how to construct an operations manual to facilitate regulatory inspections and organize laboratory functions.

“We continually strive to add new topics to our program [short courses] to stay abreast of current events and to present relevant, useful information for laboratory professionals,” says Alice Chen, Short Course chairman. “In addition to the educational aspect, the new regulatory courses can be a tremendous asset to attendees by providing valuable networking opportunities and contacts in the field.”

One of the world’s largest events devoted to laboratory science, the annual Pittcon conference and exposition attracts nearly 20,000 attendees from industry, academia and government from 90 countries worldwide. Information is available at www.pittcon.org.
