Wind energy research project gets $6.5M in funding support

Gaspé, QC – The Wind Energy TechnoCentre has received $6.5 million in funding from the federal government to equip two wind turbines and a test cell with the instrumentation needed to carry out research and development on wind energy in Nordic climates.

The $20.5-million project – the result of a partnership among business and research stakeholders – will involve the acquisition of two high-powered wind turbines (to be installed in Gaspé’s Rivière au Renard sector), the establishment of a test cell in Murdochville (designed to couple wind energy with other complementary power sources in the absence of wind), and the outfitting of these three facilities with instrumentation and the implementation of a wind energy storage system.
