CSMLS announces appointment of director, certification


Hamilton, ON – The Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS) has appointed Tania Toffner as director, certification, effective November 16, 2009.

Ms Toffner graduated from the University of Guelph with a bachelor of science degree in 1998. She completed the medical laboratory science program at the Michener Institute for Applied Health Sciences, and obtained CSMLS certification as a general medical laboratory technologist in 2001.

Upon receiving her certification, Tania joined the staff of the Blood and Tissue Bank at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre in Toronto. In 2005, she transferred to the Flow Cytometry Laboratory-a position she currently holds.

As an active volunteer with CSMLS, Tania has developed an extensive working knowledge of the national certification process. From 2004 to 2007, she was a member of the General Medical Laboratory Technology Examination Panel. Tania also served as the examination panel representative to the Council on National Certification from 2005 to 2007.

In 2007, Tania was elected to the CSMLS board of directors. Her term began in 2008, at which time she was appointed as the representative to the Council on National Certification. In 2009, she was elected to serve a second term on the Board of Directors (commencing January 2010).
