Contract awarded to begin renovations at Defence R&D establishment in Toronto


Ottawa, ON December , 2003 A contract award for the renovation of the Defence Research and Development Canada research centre in Toronto (DRDC Toronto) has been announced by the federal government. The $5.4-million contract to upgrade and extend the life of the facility was awarded to Bird Construction of Toronto following a competitive bidding process.

DRDC is an agency of the Department of National Defence responding to the scientific and technological needs of the CF. DRDC Toronto is one of the agency’s six research centres located across Canada, with a corporate office in Ottawa. With a broad scientific program, DRDC actively collaborates with industry, international allies, academia, other government departments and the national security community.

DRDC Toronto is home to several state-of-the-art research facilities and will continue to operate fully during construction.

This is the start of a renovation program to upgrade mechanical and electrical systems and to carry out interior renovations, improving the operational efficiency of the facilities. The end result will be a more modern, efficient and user-friendly facility.
