Biopharm firm announces additions to management team


Edmonton, AB July 31, 2003 Biopharmaceutical firm BioMS Medical, which specializes in developing treatments for multiple sclerosis, says it has appointed Mark Krantz, PhD, to the newly created position of director of scientific affairs and Les Ferenczi to the newly created position of biostatistician.

Dr Krantz holds a PhD in biochemistry from the University of California at Berkeley. Prior to joining BioMS, Dr Krantz worked at Biomira between 1987 and 2002. Prior to that, he was an associate professor at the University of Alberta (1982-1986), a research scientist with the Canadian Red Cross (1983-1986), and an assistant professor at McGill University (1977-1981). He conducted postdoctoral research at Albert Einstein College of Medicine and the Johns Hopkins University. Dr Krantz has published 35 research articles.

Mr Ferenczi holds a Master’s degree in mathematical statistics from the University of Alberta and a Master’s degree in mathematics from Charles University in the former Czechoslovakia. Mr Ferenczi was the principal biostatistician for the clinical and regulatory division at Biomira between 1997 and 2002. Prior to Biomira, he was coordinator of statistical consulting services and a lecturer at the department of mathematical sciences at the University of Alberta (1987-1997), and director of cancer registry and research scientist at the Alberta Cancer Board (1978-1987).
