University Health Network appoints new chief executive


Toronto, ON – Dr. Peter Pisters, currently vice president of the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center’s Regional Care System, has been named as the University Health Network (UHN)’s next president & CEO.

Dr. Pisters is an internationally known tenured professor of surgery at MD Anderson, and has held numerous clinical, administrative and leadership positions at the institute since 1994. He was previously with Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. He a graduate of the University of Western Ontario’s Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry, and holds an M.Sc. in Health Care Management from Harvard University.

“As a Canadian, I have always been proud of the health care offered to all citizens,” he said. “To return as president & CEO of UHN is a unique challenge and a privilege. I will do everything in my power to build on the legacy of those who have gone before me and expand the capabilities and reach of people within the organization so that patients may benefit across Canada and around the world.”

He takes on the role of president & CEO of UHN on January 1, 2015.
