Toronto Region Research Alliance names new chairman

Toronto, ON – The board of directors of the Toronto Region Research Alliance (TRRA) has appointed Courtney Pratt chairman of the board of directors effective immediately. Mr Pratt will assume the role of president and chief executive officer effective September 30. He succeeds Ross McGregor who is completing his two year term as the start-up CEO of the organization and will continue to serve on the TRRA advisory council.

TRRA’s goal is to transform the Toronto Region into a world-leading centre for research and research-intensive industry. The organization brings together diverse stakeholders to build public and private research capacity which, in turn, will accelerate the commercialization of research and attract increased R&D investment in the area.

“I’ve been involved in the community for many years, and I know the many strengths and assets that we have in the Toronto Region,” said Mr Pratt. “I want to build on those strengths to continue transforming the Toronto Region as a leading global centre for research and innovation.”

Mr Pratt has been chairman of Stelco since April 2006, and served as president and chief executive officer of Stelco from January 2004 to March 2006. Previously, he held leadership positions with Toronto Hydro Corporation, Hydro One Networks, the Caldwell Partners, and Noranda. He is a director of Stelco, Moosehead Breweries, Knightsbridge Human Capital, and 407ETR. He is also a member of the Ontario Advisory Council of Telus.
