New high-impact fund targets prion research


Vancouver, BC – PrioNet Canada, a scientific network devoted to the study of prion diseases, has announced a new High-Impact Fund program that will support research urgencies in response to real-time BSE/TSE events.

The network is seeking to fund projects that are innovative and balance an element of risk against the opportunity to advance the field. It is anticipated funded projects will challenge current concepts and address unexplored areas of prion research. The non-renewable funding will be awarded over a 12 month period.

Established in 2005, PrioNet Canada’s network includes over 60 diverse scientific members, students, young professionals as well as government, NGOs, and industry partners. The organization funds multidisciplinary research, provides training and network opportunities, facilitates knowledge transfer, and disseminates prion information to the public.
