Food safety systems the focus of initiative

Regina, SK – Saskatchewan is receiving $600,000 over the next two years from the federal government to enhance and promote food safety systems in its food processing industry.

The Food Safety Initiative (FSI), a component of Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada’s Canadian Food Safety and Quality Program, was announced earlier this year and is designed to help industry maintain its high standards in food safety and quality. The objective of the FSI is to increase the number of non-federally registered food processing plants using standardized food safety systems.

Ontario received $20 million in funding in February, under the same program.
