$7M funding supports 40 crop research projects

Saskatoon, SK – Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada and Saskatchewan’s provincial government is providing $7 million for crop-related research through the Saskatchewan Agriculture Development Fund (ADF). The funding extends to 40 research projects.

The support for these crop-related projects is bolstered with additional funding of nearly $2.8 million from industry partner organizations. The Western Grains Research Foundation (WGRF) contributed $1.1 million of this addition funding and the remainder comes from the Saskatchewan Wheat Development Commission, the Saskatchewan Canola Development Commission, the Saskatchewan Pulse Growers, the Saskatchewan Flax Development Commission and the Saskatchewan Barley Development Commission.

“The research community ensures we remain competitive and efficient,” said Dave Sefton, WGRF board chair. “Collaboration between government, universities and producers is critical to the success of these projects and the growth of our agriculture sector.”

Funding for ADF projects is provided under Growing Forward 2, a federal-provincial-territorial initiative. The list of projects and institutions receiving funding can be viewed here:
