Cancer research chair receives $1M in funding

Edmonton, AB – Car maintenance company Mr Lube says it is donating $1 million for cancer research at the Vancouver General Hospital through its VGH UBC Hospital Foundation, which is associated with the University of British Columbia.

The funding is earmarked for the BC Leadership Chair in Prostate Research held by Dr Martin Gleave, clinical director of the Prostate Centre at VGH and professor of surgery at the UBC. He is a specialist in developing new therapeutic treatments for prostate cancer.

“We want to do what we can to help the leading researchers such as Dr Gleave and his team at the hospital and university, so they can continue their ground-breaking work on prostate cancer research,” says Bill Ticknor, president and chief executive officer of Mr Lube Canada. “Funding from the government alone is not enough, and we feel an obligation to make a significant contribution.”
