$5M funds expansion of AMRIC lab

Sudbury, ON – The Advanced Medical Research Institute of Canada (AMRIC) is receiving $4,998,960 from the federal government to construct and equip a new 12,000-square-foot research lab in Sudbury. The new facility will help AMRIC to meet the expanding research needs of its partners and clients, as well as support the development and growth of existing and emerging biotech and pharmaceutical companies in the region.

Established in 2011 as an independent not-for-profit corporation, AMRIC works with a variety of regional health science partners to research, develop and commercialize new vaccines and treatments that improve patient health care and outcomes, with an emphasis on Northern populations.

“At Health Science North and AMRIC, research is patient care,” said Dr. Denis Roy, president and CEO, Health Sciences North. “That is why we are excited about our new research facility as it will enable us to grow our pool of highly qualified research personnel and support new research projects to improve care for patients here in Sudbury and across Canada.”
