NRC appoints new vice president for life sciences


Ottawa, ON – Dr Pierre Coulombe, president of the National Research Council of Canada (NRC), has announced the appointment of Dr Roman Szumski to the position of vice-president (life sciences) at NRC.

Dr Szumski, a medical doctor and pathologist by training, is an innovative manager with experience in building strategic public-private sector partnerships in the life sciences sector.

He was the founding CEO of Calgary Laboratory Services, a medical lab that brings together public, private and university capabilities to deliver laboratory services to Calgary. More recently, he was vice-president (science & technology) of MDS. A Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, he also holds degrees from Queen’s and McGill universities.
