News from Pittcon: New business to reshape laboratory services

Orlando, Florida — March 10, 2003 — A comprehensive service and support business for laboratories called OneSource was launched today at Pittcon by PerkinElmer.

“Within the life and analytical sciences marketplace, customers are seeking to streamline their supply chain through fewer, more value-added partnerships, enabling them to focus on their core competencies,” says Peter Coggins, president of PerkinElmer Life and Analytical Sciences. “We have launched out OneSource Laboratory Services business in response to this emerging trend, providing our customers with the means to improve productivity and reduce costs within their laboratories.”

The new business provides whole-lab partnerships, according to PerkinElmer. This includes instrument care, training, validation, extended support agreements, and one-source partnerships (which can include multi-vendor, multi-site, multi-year agreements with PerkinElmer service personnel on-site full-time).

The benefit of such a partnership to laboratory managers is improved instrument performance and increased uptime and efficiency — all of which are driving lab productivity today.

This announcement follows the company’s decision last October to combine its Life Sciences and Analytical Instruments businesses.
