Marine research centres share $3.8M in funding

Rimouski, QC – Two marine sciences organizations are receiving a total of $3,802,500 in funding from the federal government. The Marine Biotechnology Research Centre (MBRC) will receive $900,000 and the Université du Québec à Rimouski’s Institut des sciences de la mer (ISMER) will receive $2,902,500 for the acquisition of specialized equipment.

MBRC is a key player in the region’s marine science and technology sector. The acquisition of scientific equipment will allow it to maintain its high standards of research quality while allowing it to expand the range of services it offers. The project will also enable it to increase its research and technology transfer capabilities.

The funding will enable ISMER to increase its research capabilities. As the only Quebec institute equipped with some of these devices, ISMER will be in a position to generate the development of a wide range of expertise, strengthen its ties with industrial stakeholders and facilitate the transfer of technology to industry.
