Distinguished scientific board appointment for Spectral Diagnostics


Toronto, ON – January 26, 2004 – Dr Henry Friesen has joined the board of Spectral Diagnostics. The appointment was announced today by the company.

Dr Friesen initially pursued an academic medical career that included training in Boston, and appointments at the University of McGill, and the University of Manitoba. His research produced many discoveries and publications, and he has received numerous awards including a Gairdner Foundation Award, and the Order of Canada (promoted to Companion in 2001.)

In the past decade, Dr Friesen has served as president of the Medical Research Council of Canada, and guided the government into creating a new vision for research including the formation of the Canadian Institute for Health Research. Recently, Dr Friesen has supported the formation of other structures supporting the commercialization of Canadian research. He currently serves on several biotech boards, and is chairman of Genome Canada, a corporation created to spearhead the development of genomic research.

Spectral develops technologies for comprehensive disease management, including accurate and timely information to clinicians enabling the early initiation of appropriate and targeted therapy.
