Deal to co-market mass spectrometers and automated nanoelectrospray

Montreal, QC June 10, 2003 Advion BioSciences and Waters Corporation have announced a non-exclusive agreement to promote their mass spectrometry products jointly to the life science research market.

The co-marketing agreement was announced at the 51st annual meeting of the American Society for Mass Spectrometry (ASMS). The agreement is part of Advion ‘s global market initiative to introduce the benefits of automated nanoelectrospray through strategic alliances with MS instrument manufacturers.

Waters Corporation acquired UK-based Micromass in 1997, establishing a presence in high performance liquid chromatography and mass spectrometry technologies. Under the agreement, Advion and Waters will market and co-promote their electro-spray products and ensure compatibility of Advion ‘s automated nanoelectrospray system with the Waters’ mass spectrometers.

The deal is similar to one made between Advion and Thermo Electron in March. Advion Biosciences says it is part of a strategy to introduce technology to allow researchers to control both analysis speed and data quality for small-sample analysis of proteins and other biomolecules.

Financial terms of the agreement with Waters were not disclosed.
