CIHR’s Institute of Cancer Research gets new scientific director


Ottawa, ON – Dr Pierre Chartrand, acting president of the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), along with CIHR’s governing council, announced today the appointment of Dr Morag Park as incoming scientific director of CIHR’s Institute of Cancer Research. This appointment is effective August 1, 2008.

“Dr Park is a welcome addition to the CIHR leadership team,” said Dr Chartrand. “Her accomplishments in the field of cancer research will build upon the solid foundation created by the Institute of Cancer Research over the last seven years.”

Morag Park is a James McGill professor in the departments of oncology, biochemistry and medicine at McGill University where she serves as director of the molecular oncology group at the McGill University Health Centre. Dr Park is a member of the Fonds de la Recherche en Sant du Qubec, Rseau Cancer. She was the associate director for fundamental research at the MUHC, was a member of the Canadian Breast Cancer Research Alliance advisory committee and served on and chaired research review panels for the Canadian Institutes of Health Research, the Canadian Breast Cancer Research Alliance and the National Cancer Institute of Canada.
