Aventis Pasteur changes name to Sanofi Pasteur


Paris, France – Sanofi-Aventis has announced an official change of name for the Aventis Pasteur company, which is now named Sanofi Pasteur.

The Aventis Pasteur MSD joint venture, equally owned by Aventis Pasteur and Merck, which markets vaccines in Europe, also changes its name to Sanofi Pasteur MSD.

The company’s heritage in the field of human vaccines is well known and has been handed down from historical figures Louis Pasteur, Marcel Mrieux and Charles Mrieux as well as John Fitzgerald, the founder of Connaught Laboratories. All of them have marked the history of vaccinations.

Sanofi Pasteur currently offers vaccines against 20 bacterial and viral diseases. It says that in 2003, 1.4 billion vaccine doses were administered to more than 500 million people. Sales in 2003 reached 1.6 billion euros. The division has more than 8,500 employees in the world.
