Agricultural research centre appoints senior research fellow

Vineland, ON – Dr Hannah Mathers has been appointed as a senior research fellow at the Vineland Research and Innovations Centre, an independent, not-for-profit corporation established to create a hub for horticultural science and innovation in Ontario.

Dr Mathers is an associate professor in the department of horticulture and crop science at the Ohio State University. Prior to that, she was an assistant professor with Oregon State University.

As a senior research fellow at Vineland, she will focus on research initiatives, industry projects and outreach activities to assist the Ontario nursery and landscape industry. Working closely with Landscape Ontario, the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, the University of Guelph, the Ontario nursery growers as well as with the rest of the Vineland team, she will help develop a research program designed to address the industry’s highest priority issues and requirements.

“Dr Mathers is in the unique position to observe the practices of nursery and landscape operations both state and province wide, recognize and assess their common needs and requirements, and synthesize this information into a program where the greatest gains in industry profitability can be accomplished,” said Dr Jim Brandle, CEO of the Vineland Research and Innovation Centre.
