$3.6 million contract to supply growth rooms to plant research facility

Winnipeg, MB – Controlled environment systems maker Conviron says it has been awarded a contract to supply 16 plant growth rooms and control systems to a new plant research facility for the department of plant sciences at the University of Cambridge in the UK. The facility is to be constructed adjacent to the university’s botanic garden.

The new facility, now under construction, will house state-of-art equipment used for growing plants under precisely controlled environmental conditions. Conviron will be responsible for the design, manufacture and installation of the sophisticated rooms. Ultimately, a second building is being planned at the site to house the university’s collection of more than 1.1 million herbarium specimens, which include those gathered by Charles Darwin during the voyage of the Beagle.

Steve Kroft, president of Conviron, said his company is extremely pleased to have been awarded the contract to supply its growth room products for such a prestigious institution as Cambridge University.

Design and installation of the new growth rooms and control system is to be completed by August.
