Montreal, QC - The Cancer Research Society (CRS) has partnered with the Fund Health Research Quebec (FRSQ) and the Ministry of Economic Development, Innovation and Export Trade (MDEIE) to support research into environmental cancer through $15 million funding spread over five years. The agreement comes with joint funding by the CRS and MDEIE. Grants ranging from $350,000 to $1 million a year will be offered to researchers.
The grants will be used to support the GREPECAS (Environment-Cancer Research And Prevention Group) program, which will enable the CRS to back specific research conducted by groups of environment-cancer researchers. The program dovetails with the CRS's Environment-Cancer Fund TM which aims to compile a large body of scientific evidence to clearly demonstrate the impact of environmental factors on the risk of cancer development.
To achieve its results-centred objective, the research program will favour multidisciplinary and multi-institutional projects, along with those involving translational research.
Letters of intent are due on April 6, 2010, with full applications due on June 28, and results will be announced on October 1. More details are available at www.RechercheCancer.ca.
