UofS gets record revenue from technology licensing

Saskatoon, SK – Earnings from technology licensing grew to $7.2 million in 2011-12 at the University of Saskatchewan. This is a seven per cent increase over 2010-11. According to preliminary data from the Association of University Technology Managers 2012 Licensing Survey this places UofS in the top 20 per cent of post-secondary institutions in terms of licensing.

Licensing revenue from all sources at the UofS was up 25 per cent from the year before at just over $9 million. This represent record earnings said ILO Managing Director Glen Schuler. “We want the university’s intellectual property, the outstanding ideas developed by our researchers for new products, technologies and services, to be used for the public good,” he said. The ILO has 45 actively licensed technologies, and about 50 per cent of licensing revenues are returned to the researches who develop the technologies.
